چکیده

Gemcitabine (Gemcitabine), a synthetic pyrimidine nucleoside, could block DNA synthesis and inhibit RNA synthesis to some extent. It is used as the standard chemotherapy for pancreatic adenocarcinoma in stage II, III and IV, although it’s primarily palliative (Lau et al., 2012). As a severe result of the attack by gemcitabineinduced cytotoxicity for capillary endothelial cells (CECs), capillary leak syndrome (CLS) has been reported in several cases (De Pas et al., 2001; Pulkkanen et al., 2003; Biswas et al., 2004; Dahan et al., 2007). CLS, a serious disorder characterized by capillary hyperpermeability and albumin leak, is initiated by damaging CECs and their conjunctions that lead to RESEARCH ARTICLE

Gemcitabine-induced chronic systemic capillary leak syndrome

A 56-year-old woman presented with anasarca, hypoalbuminaemia and hypotension following cycle 3 day 1 of adjuvant gemcitabine for stage II pancreatic cancer. Due to the temporal nature of presentation, suspicion for gemcitabine-induced capillary leak syndrome was included in the differential diagnosis. Vascular endothelial growth factor levels were elevated at 707 pg/mL (reference range: 9-86 p...

Gemcitabine-induced systemic capillary leak syndrome.

Systemic capillary leak syndrome (SCLS) is a rare disorder with a high mortality rate, characterized by rapidly developing edema, weight gain and hypotension, hemoconcentration and hypoproteinemia. This syndrome is caused by sudden, reversible capillary hyperpermeability with a rapid extravasation of plasma from the intravascular to the interstitial space. Even though SCLS has been suggested to...

Effect of dextromethorphan, amantadine, and ketamine on morphine withdrawal syndrome in mice

Recent studies have shown that NMDA receptors are involved in the tolerance and dependence to opioids. In addition, it has been reported that ketamine, dextromethorphan and amantadine have antagonistic activity at NMDA receptors. Therefore, this study was conducted to clarify the effect of these drugs on morphine withdrawal syndrome. Morphine dependence was induced by increasing doses of morphi...
